FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Connecticut Hurricanes captured their first Drum Corps Associates (DCA) World Championship in over forty years on Sunday, September 5, 2022, at the DCA World Championships in Rochester, NY.  They are the inaugural champions of DCA’s Open Class.

“After having the 2020 season cut short and pushing through an unorthodox 2021 season due to the pandemic, we are ecstatic that we were able to return to the field this summer and win a World Championship” remarks Executive Director David Pyrch. “This was only possible due to the hardwork and selflessness of everyone in the organization: members, staff and volunteers. Not only was this our highest scoring show since 2012, but our show ‘Journey Home’ became an instant crowd favorite. ”

The Connecticut Hurricanes are a non-profit organization based in Seymour, CT.  Founded in 1932 as the John H. Collins Post Fife Drum & Bugle Corps, the Hurricanes are one of the oldest active Drum Corps in the country, and 2022 marked our 90th year of existence.

It is the intent of the Hurricanes to provide the members with life changing experiences, educationally and socially, which help each individual member gain real world life skills, musical training and performance experiences. Through the development of the character traits of dedication, discipline and teamwork, each member of this close knit fraternity learns what is required to be successful on and off the performance field.
