Thomas “Gabby” Gabianelli
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Tom “Gabby” Gabianelli, one of the most influential members in the history of the Connecticut Hurricanes Drum and Bugle Corps. After a courageous battle with cancer, Gabby has left behind a truly remarkable legacy.
Gabby’s connection to the corps began at a young age, following in the footsteps of his father, who joined the Hurricanes in 1938. Gabby himself became a member in 1966 and has since served in nearly every role imaginable within the organization over seven decades. Whether performing, managing operations, securing grant funding, organizing the annual Veterans Appreciation Concert, serving as a member of/advisor to the Board of Directors, or fulfilling any of the other roles he held throughout his illustrious career, Gabby never sought personal recognition. His unwavering focus was always on supporting and strengthening the corps that he held so dear. Because of this, he is one of only a few who has earned the Hurricanes prestigious “Heart and Soul Award.”
His calm, yet measured demeanor, dedication and commitment have left an indelible mark on the Hurricanes organization, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
