James Haber – Visual Caption Head
James Haber, entering his 16th year with the Hurricanes, is proud to be assuming the role of Visual Caption Head in 2018. James joined the horn line in 2001, playing baritone, contra bass, and even spent one year as assistant drum major, before joining the visual staff full time in 2012, and worked with the corps until 2016.

After graduating from Danbury High School in 2001, James began his teaching career immediately, and has worked with numerous programs in CT. He has taught many fall marching programs such as Stamford HS, Danbury HS, Newtown HS, Naugatuck HS, Brookfield HS, and Trumbull HS, where he has taught since 2015, and is currently the Visual Caption Head. He has also worked with the Brookfield AA winter guard and the Shelton HS Scholastic A winter percussion, where he served as drill writer for both programs. He joined the Trumbull winter percussion team in 2017 and serves that group as a visual tech.

“It is an honor to have been considered for this position, and to work with so many great friends that I have not only marched with, but also taught with over the years. The corps has a rich history of having a strong visual program, and I hope to keep that same tradition moving in 2018!

Nik Decker – Visual Technician

Nik got his start with band marching in the footsteps of his older siblings in 7th grade. During the span of his 11-year career, he has performed and taught at multiple levels of the marching world. Nik is currently in the final phases of completing his senior capstone at the University of New Haven, where he will soon hold a degree in Music and Sound Recording focusing on performance, education, and audio technology.

Stepping into the world of drum corps in 2014 with 7th Regiment, he marched with the corps for two years on mellophone and trumpet. Nik’s teaching experience ranges from the New Haven Chargers Pep Band where he served as Director for two years, the University of New Haven Marching Band, and with Trumbull High School Golden Eagle Marching Band. Serving as part of the woodwind and visual staff, he saw the band win 1st place at USBands Nationals in 2016, and taking the Best Visual caption in 2017.

Alec Smith – Visual Technician
Alec Smith, a recent graduate from the University of New Haven, spent three years competing in DCI and aging-out with The Cadets in 2016.
